Ryan Mertz

Trainer

Ryan comes to Body Within with knowledge and experience in various arenas related to physical health and wellness. Graduating from UofM with a degree in Kinesiology, Ryan went on to obtain his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University. Since then he has practiced in outpatient orthopedic PT and strength and conditioning, helping clients build strength, endurance, and mobility to improve performance while at the same time reducing the risk of injury. Ryan spent 8 years working in Major League Baseball, 2 years with the Chicago White Sox and 6 years travelling with the Chicago Cubs. He has directed rehab and prehab for countless MLB players, numerous MLB All Stars, as well as a CY Young and an MVP winner. In 2016, he was on the bench when the Cubs ended their 108 year World Series drought.

Ryan believes that physical health is a journey, not a destination. Working to be 1% better each day is easier to do than most people realize, and over time those 1% gains create serious long term results. This is why Ryan loves personalizing workouts to meet clients’ goals surrounding real life activities, things that are already fun. Working out to work out is fun, but at the end of the day there’s got to be more to train for than being the best at exercising. Day to day our backyards, lakes, offices, flower beds, and staircases are our real life gyms. Whether it’s training for the 1st or 50th 5k or to lift and carry the grandkids, we’re all training to be the best Mom, Dad, Grandparent, athlete and/or weekend warrior we can be.
